‘Titanic in Photographs – The Exhibition’ is now on display at the Queen Mary in Long Beach, CA and will run through July 2018. I just recently had a chance to check out this awesome exhibit and you can see all of my photos throughout this article. In this exhibit almost 100 period photographs are displayed, which share the story of The Titanic; from conception to her tragic demise. The exhibit offers an educational journey of one of the most memorable moments in history; a story that continues to captivate the public’s imagination over 100 years later. RMS Titanic continues to be one of the most popular culture topics in the world.
The Titanic in Photographs Exhibit is based on the best-selling book of the same name by world-renowned maritime historians, Daniel Klistorner & Steve Hall. Titanic in Photographs – The Exhibition’ takes the visitor on a journey back in time, through the eyes of those who were there, including Harland & Wolff’s professional photographer, Robert Welch, period press photographers & passengers on board Titanic and the rescue ship, Carpathia.
In addition to photographs, there are over 150 genuine artefacts from The Titanic, her identical twin sister, Olympic and even the rescue ship, Carpathia. This exhibit makes you feel like you are stepping back in time and taking a walk-through history.
One of the main highlights of the exhibition that was really amazing to see was the only surviving White Star Line lifeboat; virtually identical to those used by the few that remained of Titanic’s passengers, as they waited to be rescued from the icy waters of the North Atlantic.
Another one of my favorite artefacts aboard the Titanic Photos Exhibit was some of the actual sheet music bandleader, Wallace Hartley & his fellow musicians heroically played on until the final moments of the Titanic being afloat…
As you leave the exhibit, there is a Memorial Wall that lists the crew & passengers of The Titanic; just how many survived & perished on that fateful night of April 15th, 1912. This exhibit is both chilling and compelling and is definitely a sight to see.
The Titanic in Photographs Exhibit is now open daily from 11AM-6PM. General Admission Pricing is $27/Adult, $17.50/Child (4-11). The Titanic Exhibit Passport includes access to Titanic in Photographs: The Exhibition, Queen Mary Historic Exhibits, including the Ship Model Gallery AND One showing of “Sponge Bob Square Pants 4D: The Great Jelly Rescue” or BBC Planet Earth’s “Shallow Seas 4D” in the new immersive, special effects Theater. We went to see SpongeBob and it was a very cute show. I recommend this exhibit for anyone interested in learning more about the history of the Titanic, the Olympic, The Carpathia and their chilling similarities to The Queen Mary Ship that still stands in the Long Beach Harbor.
